By the consent of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has informed that the Islamic Religious Council has agreed to take several decisions for the Reopening of Mosques, Surau and Religious Halls Nationwide. The Minister of Religious Affairs explained that the decision was based on the Ministry of Health information and advice from the aspect of health and also Islamic Law.

Mosques, suraus, and religious halls nationwide could be considered for reopening when the total number of complete vaccinations of the country’s population reaches 70 percent. However, this is subject to the reviews of the COVID-19 Steering Committee in which the Minister of Health is the Co-Chairman of the Committee.

The opening of the mosques is only for performing the five times daily prayers and Friday prayer. Other religious activities commonly carried out at mosques are still postponed until the situation is safer. When the mosques are reopened, uniformed security personnel will assist and cooperate with the Mosque Takmir Committee Members in controlling the congregants such as their entry into the mosque by ensuring that the congregants are strictly complying with the SOPs.
