Soaring Trust and Performance Ratings Validate House of Representatives’ Track Record, Lawmakers Say
Manila — Lawmakers praised the House of Representatives’ performance, as high trust ratings for Speaker Martin Romualdez were cited as a testament to the institution’s effective functioning.
According to Philippines News Agency, Romualdez’s trust rating jumped by six points from 54 percent in Q2 2023 to 60 percent in Q3. His performance rating also saw a similar increase, climbing from 55 percent in Q2 to 61 percent in Q3.
Chair of the House Committee on Appropriations and Ako Bicol Rep. Elizaldy Co attributed the House’s success to the leadership of Speaker Romualdez, asserting that the legislative work complements the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. Co stated that trust in Romualdez’s leadership indicates that the House is on the right path.
Mark Enverga, chair of the House Committee on Agriculture and Food, expressed that the positive survey results give the House additional motivation to focus on urgent issues such as inflation and agricultural sector challenges. Enverga emphasized the House’s consistent support for government actions to counter smuggling and hoarding of essential agricultural products.
House Committee on Dangerous Drugs Chair Robert Ace Barbers said the ratings reflect the collective efforts of the House and its Speaker. “These ratings aren’t just numbers. They mirror the hard work of every member of the House,” added Romualdez, who noted that every decision and bill is a result of collective efforts. He further said he would use the survey as a tool to refine the House’s legislative agenda.
Apart from the survey, several lawmakers, including former president and current Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, participated in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) on Monday. Various representatives across districts cast their votes and emphasized the importance of choosing competent leaders at the barangay level.
BHW Party-list Rep. Angelica Co, chairperson of the House Committee on the Welfare of Children, encouraged the Sangguniang Kabataan to play a more active role in governance, particularly in overseeing public works projects and focusing on issues like child care and LGBTQIA rights.
