Singaporean Delegation Explores Agricultural Opportunities in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta

LONG AN, VIETNAM — A Singaporean delegation recently toured various agricultural enterprises in the Mekong Delta province of Long An, indicating a growing interest in Vietnamese agricultural products in the Singaporean market.

According to Philippines News Agency, Trade Counsellor and Head of the Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore, the delegation’s visit on July 12 focused on assessing food safety management policies, disease control measures, and the agricultural export certification process. The delegation visited key agricultural sites including Duong Vu Limited Liability Company, Hau Au Farm specializing in seedless lemons, and Ba Huan high-tech poultry farm, aiming to evaluate their potential for export to Singapore.

During their visit, the delegation also inquired about the production capabilities and export readiness of local manufacturers and businesses dealing in poultry, eggs, and rice. This visit follows a significant interaction in December 2023, when a delegation from the Singapore Food Authority attended the international rice festival in Hau Giang Province, which spurred interest in Vietnamese agricultural exports. Following that festival, Vietnam emerged as the largest exporter of rice and the fifth-largest exporter of aquatic products to Singapore in the first quarter of 2024.

The positive outcomes from previous visits have encouraged the Singaporean authorities to consider further imports from Vietnam, with a focus now on expanding to include egg and meat products. Thang emphasized the successful engagement between Singaporean management agencies and Vietnamese ministries, including the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, during visits to farms and factories in Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, and Long An provinces.

Thang remarked that Singaporean experts were impressed by the management model, production scale, and disease control measures they observed at Vietnamese farms. However, he noted that continued collaboration between the authorities of both countries is essential to meet the stringent requirements for exporting products to the Singaporean market.
