A toastmasters member from Brunei, Shawn Cassidy Narcis, represented the country at the 2015 Toastmasters International Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada recently.
According to a press release, the international convention conducts business such as electing the international officers, hosts educational sessions for Toastmasters members, and also hosts the final rounds of Toastmasters’ International Speech Contest.
This year, Mohammed Qahtani of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, District 79, won the 2015 World Champion of Public Speaking with his speech, “The Power of Words”. Followed by Aditya Maheswaran of Mumbai, India, District 41, on finishing in second place for his speech, “Scratch” and Manoj Vasudevan of Singapore, District 80, on finishing in third place for his speech, “We Can Fix It”.
Shawn Cassidy Narcis is the Club Growth Director for District 87, which comprises of seven divisions with more than 150 corporate and community clubs under Toastmasters International in regions including Brunei Darussalam, East Malaysia and Indonesia.
“At the convention, I’ve met liked minded individuals who cultivates- supportive environment that is on an international scale whenever help is required. The beauty of this international organisation is that its peer learning program nurtures the member’s willingness to help and support each other for the purpose of self-improvement.
Regardless of race or beliefs, each member’s centric focus is to develop communication and leadership skills which results in greater self-confidence and personal growth. Toastmasters International have been providing a platform to do so for 90 years,” said Narcis.
