Senior Citizen Caught with P10 Million Worth of Shabu in Lapu-Lapu City Sting Operation

LAPU-LAPU CITY — In a significant drug enforcement operation on Monday night, a senior citizen was apprehended in Barangay Mactan with 1.5 kilos of shabu, estimated to be worth PHP10.4 million, along with a loose firearm.

According to Philippines News Agency, the City Intelligence Unit and City Drug Enforcement Unit of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Station, the operation targeted a 60-year-old resident known as ‘Greg’ from Sitio Ponce, Barangay Capitol Site. The sting was a result of a coordinated effort involving local intelligence, the Regional Intelligence Division, and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Central Visayas, following information that Greg was a high-value target on the regional drug watchlist.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan, who was present during the on-site inventory of the seized evidence, expressed his concern over the persistence of illegal drug activities in the city. “He is a senior citizen, but he continues to engage in illegal drug business right here in our city. Thanks to our city intelligence unit for his arrest,” Chan commented.

The suspect is currently detained at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office’s holding facility, awaiting the formal filing of drug charges.
