The Institute for Asian Studies has shown that women constitute a majority of the population aged 60 or older in Asia Pacific due to their higher life expectancy. However, further research has also revealed that many elderly women are unable to enjoy their later years due to fewer assets to support an adequate standard of living in older age.

The Honourable Major General Retired Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports outlines during the Opening Ceremony of the Regional Forum on Strengthening Social Protection Policy focused on Elderly Women and Ageing.

The ceremony took place at The Rizqun International Hotel, Gadong, yesterday morning. The forum held was a sideline of 19th Meeting of The ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children, as well as the 18th Meeting of The ASEAN Committee on Women and related meetings. The opening ceremony then followed by a joint session of delegates from members of Asian countries. Among other things that were shared were the best practices, challenges and improvements facing the Asian countries. The 6 days forum will be held until this Saturday.
