Ralph Recto Appointed as New Department of Finance Secretary


MANILA: Senators have voiced their support for Ralph Recto’s recent appointment as the new Department of Finance (DOF) secretary. Former colleagues in the Senate praised Recto, with Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri highlighting his unique ability to connect mathematical concepts with practical national issues. Zubiri expressed confidence in Recto’s potential as Finance Secretary and acknowledged his reputation as a “resident numbers genius” in the Senate. Senate Finance committee chairperson Senator Sonny Angara commended Recto’s political savvy and intellectual prowess. Angara is optimistic about Recto’s understanding of the country’s political and fiscal structures and believes it will be beneficial for the future.



According to Philippines News Agency, chair of the Ways and Means panel, Recto’s extensive experience in finance and economic policy makes him a valuable asset to the economic team. Gatchalian looks forward to collaborating with Recto on tax system reforms. Senator Francis Escudero views Recto as a new asset to the Marcos administration, assisting in sustaining the country’s economic gains. Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel III also supported Recto’s appointment.



MalacaƱang announced President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s decision to appoint Recto, the House Deputy Speaker, as the new DOF chief, succeeding Benjamin Diokno. Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil stated that President Marcos will preside over Recto’s oath-taking ceremony. Recto will resign from his seat in the House of Representatives to assume his new Cabinet role.
