Post: Puerto Princesa Enhances Tourism Coordination Among Community Stakeholders

Puerto Princesa, Philippines - The Puerto Princesa city government is taking proactive steps to unify tourism promotion efforts across its diverse attractions, utilizing the expertise of community-based sustainable tourism (CBST) associations.

According to Philippines News Agency, head of the City Tourism Department (CTD), a meeting is scheduled for Wednesday to align the marketing strategies of six distinct tourism "circuits" within the city, each managed by its own CBST. This initiative aims to standardize promotional efforts while maintaining the unique appeal of each area. Alvior detailed the city’s approach in an interview on Monday, noting the importance of a cohesive strategy in advancing the local tourism sector.

Alvior highlighted the successful integration of environmental stewardship and economic development through the CBST framework, which allows local communities to manage and protect their natural resources effectively. These communities have turned into models of sustainable tourism, drawing interest from other regions in the Philippines. Representatives from various societal segments, including non-government organizations and academic institutions, participate actively in these CBSTs.

Among the city’s attractions, the Underground River in Circuit 1 remains the most visited. Other circuits include the northeast areas of the city, the premier island location of Honda Bay, the central business district, world-class beach spots on the West Coast, and the Acacia Tunnel in Tagbarungis, which is part of the sixth circuit. Alvior also mentioned ongoing rehabilitation efforts in Circuit 2, which was heavily damaged by Typhoon Odette, and plans for developing an 'Acacia Park' in Circuit 6 to enhance the area's appeal.
