PSA Sets Goal to Register 300,000 in Eastern Visayas for PhilSys in 2024

TACLOBAN CITY: The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has set a target to register 300,000 residents of Eastern Visayas for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) in 2024, intensifying its campaign for wider coverage.

According to Philippines News Agency, the targeted registrants include those who missed previous registration opportunities and children turning five years old this year. Perante, in an interview on Monday, urged residents, particularly parents of children aged five and above, to take advantage of the PhilSys registration as it extends to local communities.

Despite the successful registration of 3.8 million individuals from the region, Perante highlighted that there remains a portion of the population yet to be covered. She emphasized the importance of PhilSys in providing legal identity, which is crucial for accessing various government and private social services.

The PSA has been actively engaging in information campaigns at schools, universities, and government agencies to enhance public understanding and participation in the program. Collaborating with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and the Post Office, the PSA is also focused on accelerating the production and distribution of identification cards.

Residents can apply for their electronic IDs, which serve as valid proof of identity, through the official PhilSys website (https://appt.philsys.gov.ph). These IDs are part of the initiative under Republic Act 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act, signed into law in August 2018. This act aims to establish a unified national ID system for all Filipinos and resident aliens, streamlining identification processes across the country.
