President Marcos Jr. Advocates for Stronger International Collaboration for Philippine Growth
MANILA: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. emphasized the importance of fostering closer relationships with international allies to boost Philippine growth. Speaking at the traditional Vin d’honneur at MalacaƱan Palace, President Marcos expressed gratitude to the diplomatic community for facilitating his foreign visits and strengthening bilateral relations. He acknowledged the significant improvements in the country’s international relations and its economic performance since he assumed office in mid-2022.
According to Philippines News Agency, the collaboration with diplomats has been instrumental in advancing bilateral ties and exploring new opportunities in regional and multilateral areas. He urged the diplomatic corps to collaborate with his administration in identifying areas for joint initiatives, highlighting challenges such as poverty, education, food security, health, job creation, and livelihood opportunities.
President Marcos also reflected on the Philippines’ recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, citing a 6.1-percent economic growth in the third quarter of 2023, improved management of inflation, and reduced unemployment and underemployment rates. He expressed confidence in the country’s resurgence following the pandemic and global conflicts. The President emphasized the Philippines’ commitment to an independent foreign policy and the necessity of cooperation amidst geopolitical tensions.
Highlighting the country’s economic recovery, President Marcos mentioned the Philippines’ potential to become one of the fastest-growing economies in Asia in 2023, as forecasted by international organizations like the Asian Development Bank, World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund. The Vin d’honneur, attended by ambassadors from 54 nations and heads of 11 international organizations, symbolizes the renewal of the Philippines’ social contract with its people and its role in the international community.
