Philippines and United States Discuss Enhanced Cooperation for 2024

MANILA — In a move to fortify bilateral relations, the Philippines and the United States discussed ways to reinforce their cooperation in 2024. This discussion builds upon President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s official visit to Washington D.C. in May. The conversation took place between Secretary Enrique Manalo of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

According to Philippines News Agency, The DFA stated that Manalo and Blinken addressed various mutual concerns, including the ongoing tensions in the South China Sea. Manalo reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to protecting its sovereignty and jurisdiction while maintaining peace and security. He emphasized the need for dialogue and open communication with other parties. Blinken, in turn, reassured the U.S.’s strong commitment to the Philippines under the Mutual Defense Treaty.
