Philippine Local Leaders Urged to Enforce Executive Order on Firecracker Ban
MANILA — Dax Cua, president of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines and Governor of Quirino, called on local leaders to continue enforcing the Executive Order 28 from 2017, which restricts firecracker use to community displays. The appeal, issued in a news release on Thursday, aims to protect constituents from firecracker-related harm.
According to Philippines News Agency, local government units should also actively crackdown on the sale of illegal firecrackers. This call aligns with Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos’ advocacy for a nationwide firecracker ban to prevent injuries during holiday celebrations. The Department of Health reported 75 firecracker-related injuries as of Wednesday. Cua emphasized the importance of safe celebrations and encouraged local leaders to promote alternative noise-making methods, such as using pots, pans, tambourines, music, and videoke singing, prioritizing health and well-being over tradition.
