Parade Ceremony

Effective programmes are not only able to shape the morals of inmates, but also generate growth mind-set by changing their thinking patterns towards development and self-identity. Therefore, it is very important to ensure the main role of the Prisons Department in controlling, rehabilitating inmates including detainees and subsequently responsible for providing a strategic, quality and orderly rehabilitation programme. The Minister of Home Affairs was speaking at a Parade Ceremony in conjunction with the Prisons Department 69th Anniversary, 17th March morning. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman said the Prisons Department continuously implements several programmes such as spirituality, counselling programmes, physical rehabilitation programmes including vocational skills training as efforts to provide the inmates with skills to help them find any suitable job in the future.

Yang Berhormat highlighted that family and community support are very important in helping inmates to strengthen their identity including providing jobs or supporting their businesses as a source of resilient income, providing guidance and motivation. This is one of the main factors contributing to recidivism.

Since its establishment on 1st March 1954, the Prisons Department strives to diversify several developments and advances including increasing organisation and knowledgeable as well as experienced human resources. The Prisons Department will further strengthen and look for new opportunities and approaches in strengthening the rehabilitation programmes.
