Ozamiz City Police Pursue Suspects in P41.7-M Mall Robbery
OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental: The local police force is actively searching for three persons of interest linked to a major robbery at a shopping mall in Ozamiz City. The heist, which occurred just before dawn on New Year’s Day, resulted in the theft of approximately PHP41.7 million in jewelry and cash. Maj. Dennis Tano, the city police chief, stated on Tuesday that the robbery appears to have been meticulously planned over several months.
According to Philippines News Agency, the robbers accessed the Gaisano Mall by digging a hole through the sewer network using heavy equipment around 3 a.m. on January 1. Once inside, they targeted two jewelry stores and an automated teller machine. The robbery was discovered later that morning by Randy Molina Villadores, responsible for the mall’s food court area, as he arrived for the day’s opening around 11:35 a.m. The police are also scrutinizing some mall employees and reviewing security camera footage that captured images of the three suspects.
