Post: Overwhelming Support in South Cotabato for New Barangay Creation

TUPI, SOUTH COTABATO - In a decisive vote, over 2,300 residents of Tupi, South Cotabato, have endorsed the creation of a new barangay, demonstrating strong community support in a plebiscite held on Saturday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the plebiscite saw 2,393 out of 2,485 participants, or 96.30 percent, voting in favor of establishing Barangay Juan-Loreto Tamayo. Only 89 voters, or 3.58 percent, opposed the proposal. The voter turnout for this plebiscite was 25.45 percent, with the three barangays involved—Cebuano, Linan, and Miasong—boasting a combined total of 9,765 registered voters.

Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia, along with other senior officials, was actively involved in monitoring the plebiscite proceedings, ensuring the voting process was conducted smoothly and securely. The poll body also acknowledged the contributions of various partner agencies, including the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, for helping maintain order and security during the event.
