Ombudsman Orders Dismissal of Bamban Mayor Alice Guo for Grave Misconduct

BAMBAN, TARLAC – The Office of the Ombudsman has officially dismissed Bamban Mayor Alice Guo from her position due to grave misconduct, including her involvement with illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO).

According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Guo demonstrated a willful intent to violate legal standards and disregard established rules, prompting her dismissal. The decision also includes the forfeiture of her retirement benefits and a perpetual ban from holding any public office. This action highlights significant corruption issues linked to the operation of POGOs in her jurisdiction.

Furthermore, Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra revealed plans to continue with a quo warranto case against Guo, which could further prevent her from running for any elective public office in the future, regardless of her potential appeal against the Ombudsman’s dismissal order.

In related developments, the Ombudsman found twelve other officials from Bamban guilty of conduct prejudicial to the best interest of service. The implicated officials, including Vice Mayor Leonardo Anunciacion and various department heads, have been suspended for three months as part of the sweeping actions taken to address administrative misconduct within the local government.
