Office of Civil Defense Prepares to Support Rescue Operations in Davao de Oro Landslide


MANILA — Following a devastating landslide in Davao de Oro, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has declared its readiness to support local government units in their rescue operations.



According to Philippines News Agency, the agency is actively coordinating with local disaster risk reduction and management offices in the Davao Region to assist in response operations in Maco and the wider region. The landslide, which occurred in Barangay Masara, Maco town, has resulted in six fatalities and 31 injuries, with 46 individuals still missing. Rescue efforts, which were temporarily halted, have resumed with support from uniformed services and local DRRMOs. The Philippine Air Force has been involved in evacuating victims, utilizing UH-1H and Sikorsky S-76 helicopters to transport injured individuals to medical facilities. Approximately 300 families, or about 2,000 people, have been affected by the landslide, prompting evacuations to safer locations. President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has visited Davao City for a briefing on the situation and discussed the development of an integrated flood control master plan for the Davao River with assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)
