Northern Mindanao Police Awarded for Significant Reduction in Crime Rate
CAGAYAN DE ORO, Philippines — The Police Regional Office-10 (PRO-10) in Northern Mindanao has been recognized with the Performance Governance System (PGS) award due to a notable decrease in the region’s crime rates. This accolade reflects the agency’s commitment to governance reforms and operational excellence.
According to Philippines News Agency, the award was presented by PNP Chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. on Monday, marking PRO-10’s achievement in attaining the PGS Institutionalized Status. This status is the result of the office passing the stringent evaluation process and fulfilling the mandatory requirements for the fourth and final stage. “Institutionalized status signifies the highest level of commitment to governance reforms and performance excellence,” Gen. Acorda stated during the award ceremony held at the PRO-10 headquarters.
The PGS framework guides the development and execution of strategies aimed at enhancing governance reform capacities for improved service delivery. Significant achievements leading to this award include a reduction in the monthly crime rates by 60.45 percent, from 85.2 percent in 2014 to 24.7 percent in 2021. Additionally, the average monthly index crime rate fell from 36.4 percent in 2014 to 3.50 percent in 2022. These reductions were accompanied by a rise in crime-solving efficiency from 29.5 percent in 2014 to 96.8 percent in 2022, and a crime-solution efficiency rate increase from 27.18 percent to 81.28 percent over the same period.
Brig. Gen. Ricardo Layug Jr., director of PRO-10, in his acceptance speech, highlighted that the conferment signifies the onset of new challenges. He emphasized the commitment of PRO-10 to continue its strategic initiatives, activities, and best practices to further enhance service to the community in Northern Mindanao.
