Negros Occidental Enhances Market Potential of Organic Products
Bacolod City – The Negros Occidental provincial government is focusing on boosting the market potential of local organic products as part of the 16th Negros Island Organic Farmers Festival. The festival, which commenced on Wednesday, is themed ‘Regeneration for Future Generations’ and emphasizes the significance of eco-friendly farming practices.
According to Philippines News Agency, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, in his opening message at the Negros Residences, stressed the need to empower and enable farmers to enhance the marketability of organic products from the region. The five-day festival showcases a variety of organic offerings from Negros Island, including farm produce, products, and merchandise. It features an organic fair, cook fests, seminars, and workshops aimed at promoting sustainable agriculture. Lacson highlighted the importance of the festival in educating and committing to sustainable agriculture for the economic development of the island, the well-being of communities, and the mitigation of environmental destruction. Representatives from both Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental attended the opening event. Concurrently, the 1st Terra Madre Visayas is being held to advocate for small-scale, traditional, and sustainable food production in the region, aligning with the festival’s commitment to eco-friendly farming practices and future food systems.
