Brunei Darussalam's Group of Writers, Asterawani in collaboration with Language and Literature Bureau; Malay Literature Programme, Malay Studies Programme, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Universiti Brunei Darussalam and Putera Seni Group, KPS is organising a 2-day National Literature Symposium 2023. Held for the first time, the symposium is in conjunction with the 39th National Day Celebration. The opening ceremony took place yesterday morning at Balai Sarmayuda, Language and Literature Bureau.
On hand to officiate the Symposium was Doctor Chin Wei Keh, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Higher Education at the Ministry of Education. Earlier, Professor Ampuan Doctor Haji Brahim bin Ampuan Haji Tengah, Head One, Asterawani said the symposium allows scholars and literature lovers to explore and produce more high-quality works with a Bruneian spirit and loyalty to the king and country.
The event was highlighted with a keynote speech by Doctor Haji Hashim bin Haji Abdul Hamid, recipient of the Southeast Asian Writers Award 2003. The presentation titled 'Meruah Kewatanan Dalam Karya Naratif Brunei', Doctor Haji Hashim, among others, focused the discussion on several literary works. Themed 'Memperteguh Nationalisme dan Nilai-Nilai Kebruneian' or Strengthening Nationalism and Bruneian Values, the symposium is an appreciation of the services and contributions of local writers.
