BRUNEI DARUSSALAM — In a message marking World Stroke Day 2023, Minister of Health Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar revealed that stroke is the fourth leading cause of death in Brunei Darussalam, with approximately 400 new cases recorded each year.
According to a new release by Radio Television Brunei, the minister highlighted that 63% of stroke patients are aged 70 or below. Over half of all stroke cases in the country are linked to hypertension, and a health survey has found that more than one-third of adults aged 18 to 69 are experiencing hypertension, with one-third of this figure not receiving any treatment. The message emphasized the Ministry of Health's ongoing efforts in collaboration with stakeholders to focus on stroke prevention, treatment, and control strategies. This year’s World Stroke Day theme was 'Together We Are #Greater Than Stroke,' which calls for individual action in understanding, identifying, and addressing stroke risks.
