MIAA Plans Dedicated Processing Center for Private Plane Passengers at NAIA

MANILA — The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is set to establish a specialized processing center at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for passengers of private planes, addressing concerns about security measures for VIPs. The decision comes in response to a senator’s call for heightened scrutiny of such passengers to ensure consistent security protocols across all traveler categories.

According to Philippines News Agency, the proposed facility will be located at NAIA Terminal 4 in Pasay City, focusing on the processing of general aviation passengers, both arriving and departing. “We are considering the implementation of stringent security processes at this center, but it will take a meticulous approach to address potential loopholes. We aim to operationalize the center by mid next week,” Ines stated during an exclusive interview with the Philippine News Agency.

Ines explained that the new center would not disrupt the current operations of Terminal 4, which will continue to serve domestic flights. The area designated for the processing center will include X-ray machines and will be staffed by Immigration and Customs personnel around the clock to ensure all VIP passengers undergo the same security checks as other travelers.

The initiative follows recent concerns raised by Senator Raffy Tulfo during a public hearing, where he criticized the lax security measures for VIPs who typically bypass standard airport security screenings and proceed directly to their aircraft. The MIAA’s move aims to standardize security procedures and enhance the overall safety of air travel at NAIA.
