MANILA — The transportation of tunnel boring machines (TBMs) for the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) is expected to cause significant traffic disruptions in Metro Manila during nighttime hours this weekend.
According to Philippines News Agency, the heavy machinery will be moved from the Manila Harbor Center to Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo from 9 p.m. until 4 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. The TBMs are essential for the construction of tunnels between the MMSP's Camp Aguinaldo Station and Ortigas Station, a critical segment of the city's burgeoning subway system.
The DOTr outlined specific timings and routes likely to be impacted: Traffic along Port/R-10 is expected to experience disruptions from 9 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., followed by C3 Road from 9:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., 5th Avenue from 10:30 p.m. to midnight, G. Araneta Avenue from midnight to 1:30 a.m., E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue from 1:30 a.m. to 2 a.m., Gilmore Avenue from 2 a.m. to 3 a.m., and Col. Bonny Serrano Avenue from 3 a.m. to 4 a.m.
Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid the expected congestion. The DOTr has apologized for the inconvenience and expressed gratitude for the public's patience and understanding during this critical phase of infrastructure development.
DOTr Undersecretary Timothy John Batan, speaking at the Build Better More infrastructure forum last week, reported that the MMSP had achieved 14.48 percent of its target completion as of May 31, marking progress in the ambitious project aimed at enhancing Metro Manila's transportation network.
