Politeknik Brunei and the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam, NFABD have signed a Memorandum of Understanding intended to give certified recognition to Politeknik Brunei’s students undergoing a programme on football and futsal refereeing. Witnessing the signing of the MoU was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah ibni Al Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, President of the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam. The ceremony took place at the NFABD House in Jalan Pusat Persidangan, Berakas yesterday afternoon.
Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education, Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, General Executive Committee and Secretary General of the NFABD and Director of Politeknik Brunei.
The ceremony began with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat led by Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Setia Raja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Suhaili bin Haji Mohiddin.
Pengiran Anak Mohd. Sofian bin Pengiran Anak Hj Ibrahim, Secretary General of NFABD in a welcoming speech expressed the hope that the students participating in the programme would use their skills and knowledge to enhance the quality of football especially in the refereeing of football and futsal.
Meanwhile, Awang Denis Ho Mun Tai, Director of Politeknik Brunei in his address said the basic refereeing course is part of a programme under the Enrichment Module of the Student Development and Innovation Centre of the polytechnic where the students will be given 50 enrichment marks after completing the course and receiving the Basic Referee’s Course Certificate.
Signing on behalf of the NFABD was Pengiran Hj Aliudin bin Pengiran Hj Tajudin, Executive Committee member and Pengiran Anak Mohd. Sofian Bin Pengiran Anak Hj Ibrahim, Secretary General of the association. Politeknik Brunei was represented by its Director Awang Denis Ho Mun Tai and Hajah Hanipah binti Haji Apong, the institute’s Acting Assistant Director. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding was a followup of the Memorandum of Understanding in 2015 between the two parties. Among those present was Datin Seri Paduka Dr. Hajah Rumaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, Deputy Minister of Education. 85 students are taking part in the Basic Referee’s Course and four others continued in the refereeing field under the guidance of NFABD referees and one of them was appointed as a referee in the ASEAN under 14 football Championship in July 2016 in Bandar Seri Begawan. With the continuation of the Memorandum of Understanding, it is hoped the youths’ achievement in football and futsal in the country will develop further.
