Mosque Officers should strive to improve their leadership capabilities especially in aspects such as management and administration. This is to ensure mosques are more active and the spread of Islamic teachings is enhanced and progressive. It is also a way to successfully overcome the current challenges and problems faced by the community.
The issue was raised by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs during a Muzakarah or Meeting of the country’s Mosque Officers in conjunction with the new year of Hijrah 1438.
Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Yussof stressed that today’s Imams or prayer leaders should increase efforts and carry out more social activities to enliven the mosques. In their roles as educators and speakers, the Imams are respected religious figures and the main contributors in knowledge development among the villagers. This is an integral part of their mission to help the country produce a pious community and a developed nation. The muzakarah or meeting was intended to enhance the vision and mission of the Mosque Affairs Department towards improving the quality of mosque management as well as the credibility, authority and performance of the mosque officers.
