The Hassanal Bolkiah mosque in Tutong town yesterday celebrated its 50th anniversary or golden jubilee celebration with a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony. The ceremony was also held to look back on some of the important events and activities conducted by the mosque in the 1960s.
Present was Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs. 500 people, comprising government officers, mosque affairs officers, imams and bilals from the Tutong district attended the ceremony. The Khatam Al-Quran participants comprised of the Hassanal Bolkiah mosque takmir committee members, mosque congregants, as well as members of youth groups and the mosque’s muslimah group.
The ceremony coincided with the presentation of souvenirs to 14 officers and staff who have worked at the mosque, as recognition for their service. The Hassanal Bolkiah mosque in Tutong town was built on the 17th of April 1965 and was officially opened on the 26th of August 1966.
