MANILA - President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced on Saturday that the government is dedicated to elevating the Philippines as a top destination for tourism, relaxation, and entertainment, in line with the Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines) vision. Speaking at the inauguration of the Solaire Resort North in Bagong Pag-asa, Quezon City, Marcos highlighted the impressive recovery of the Philippine tourism and hospitality industry following the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to Philippines News Agency, the country welcomed 5.45 million inbound tourists in 2023, more than doubling the 2.65 million visitors recorded in 2022. He emphasized the government's goal to promote the Philippines as open for tourism and business post-pandemic. The Solaire brand, operated by Bloomberry Resorts Corporation (BRC), plays a significant role in showcasing the Philippines' unique hospitality. Marcos expressed confidence that Solaire Resort North would enhance the country's global hospitality sector standing.
The President noted that the gaming industry has created jobs and supported various sectors, contributing significantly to government revenues for social development programs. BRC chair and CEO Enrique Razon Jr. stated that the US$1 billion Solaire Resort North investment aims to elevate the entertainment experience in Quezon City and boost economic activity by attracting more visitors. The 38-story resort features 530 guest rooms, 14 dining options, and various leisure facilities. Marcos and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos toured the resort's facilities following the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
