A local man was brought before the court for a charge under Section 392 of the Penal Code, Chapter 22 for robbery, an offence that carries imprisonment term not exceeding 30 years, and not less than 12 strokes of the cane. According to the Acting Commandant Officer of the Belait District Police, the robbery occurred on the 29th of May at 4:30 in the afternoon at the Panaga bus stop. At the time, a victim who was carpooling with the suspect, was threatened by the suspect with a knife.

The 35-year old suspect was then detained on the 22nd of June 2020, and is currently remanded at Jerudong Prison.

 

In another case, 3 suspects were apprehended under the suspicion of being involved in a 4-digit gambling activity in Kampung Sungai Liang, Belait District. The three suspects comprise of a 60-year old Malaysian, a female permanent resident aged 58, and a 63-year-old local man. During the raid, several items believed to be used for the gambling activity were confiscated. The suspects and the confiscated items were brought to the Sungai Liang Police Station for further investigation. The suspects will be charged under Section 4 C of the Common Gaming Houses Act, Chapter 28, which carries a fine not exceeding 5 thousand dollars and imprisonment up to 3 years upon conviction.
