Livelihood Assistance Provided to Families of Child Laborers in Bicol Provinces
LEGAZPI CITY: The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regional office has announced the distribution of livelihood assistance to families of child laborers and a disadvantaged worker in Camarines Norte and Albay, two provinces in the Bicol region.
According to Philippines News Agency, this aid initiative is aimed at empowering 118 beneficiaries from the two provinces. The program’s goal is to enhance livelihood opportunities, address unemployment and income disparities, and ultimately contribute to the elimination of child labor. Gasga emphasized the importance of this assistance in supporting families who are striving for better living conditions and income.
The beneficiaries, including 25 from Camarines Norte and 93 from Albay, received tools and equipment valued at PHP 2.7 million. These resources, distributed in separate ceremonies over the weekend, are intended for various business ventures. The supported activities range from food vending, welding, and burger stands to laundry services, vulcanizing, and health and nail care services.
Rita Taay Geralla, a 49-year-old recipient of the program, expressed her gratitude towards DOLE for the “Livelihood Assistance for Parents of Child Laborers, Solo Parents, and Displaced Workers” program. Geralla recognized the significant positive impact the assistance would have on her family’s quality of life. She articulated her appreciation and committed to utilizing and growing the resources provided to support her children’s education and her family’s welfare.
