Letran Defeats Santa Rosa City in Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference Match
Manila – The Saints and Lattes-Letran volleyball team secured a decisive win over Santa Rosa in the Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference at the Paco Arena here on Wednesday. The victory was marked by standout performances from team members and places Letran at the top of Pool C alongside Davies Paints-Adamson.
According to a news release by the Philippines News Agency, Vince Virrey Himzon led Letran with 15 points, 12 of which came from attacks. Himzon, who was also named NCAA Season 98 Rookie of the Year, further contributed with three aces. John Derrick Bautista followed with 11 attacks, two blocks, and one ace. Additional contributions came from Steven Sta. Maria with 11 points and John Wayne Arano, who made 13 excellent sets in a match that lasted 89 minutes.
Letran’s head coach, Brian Esquibel, noted the team’s enthusiasm and strategic handling of the game. “Our middle and outside spikers contributed significantly, and we handled the game at our pace despite numerous errors,” he said. Esquibel also expressed gratitude for the support from Saints and Lattes and the school’s permission to participate. “This is the first time we are rejoining the Spikers’ Turf, and we are grateful for the support,” he added.
For Santa Rosa, Levi De Vera led with four attacks, two blocks, and one ace. He was followed by Exequiel Harvey Quezada and Alihfaisal Gampong, who each scored five points. Rikko Marius Marmento made 12 excellent receptions, while Esmitzo Polvorosa contributed with eight digs.
Looking ahead, Santa Rosa is scheduled to face HD Spikers on Sunday, October 29. Letran, meanwhile, is preparing for a challenging match against Cignal on November 3. “We are preparing for Cignal because our players look up to some of the athletes on that team. It will be exciting for them to compete against their idols,” said Esquibel.
