The difference in the learning concept of the past and the present has not changed much, it’s only that education in this millennium era emphasises on the usage of sophisticated technology and ICT equipment to meet the current and future needs of learning.

The matter was stated by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doktor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti, the recipient of the SULTAN HAJI OMAR ‘ALI SAIFUDDIEN EDUCATION AWARD.

Yang Berhormat Pehin said that looking at Islam itself, the Prophet Muhammad SAW is the head of all teachers, and in his early life, the Prophet did not talk about or propagate through example, until The Prophet reached 40 years of age when he was bestowed with a decree from Allah. Only then did he speak about the religion and that is the true concept of education. The examples shown by the Prophet in his life such as speaking the truth whereby he has never spoken anything untrue and this is the example shown by the Prophet Muhammad SAW. This is also true when he was entrusted with something left to him, the item will not be disturbed or checked over and thus, these are the characteristics needed in a teacher.

Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Saman bin Kahar who also received the SULTAN HAJI OMAR ‘ALI SAIFUDDIEN EDUCATION AWARD explained that education before the independence made many concrete and relentless efforts to establish several higher education institutions including Universiti Brunei Darussalam in order to produce highly educated people in line with Brunei Vision 2035.

Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Saman in an interview said that he sees that the diligence of these policies in the end shaped good prominent teaching figures that are dedicated and realise their responsibility towards the race and country. Even though they had a lack of institutions to train them to reach for a higher level, they are relentless with their efforts. Dato Paduka emphasised, that teachers nowadays must improve their knowledge, either formally or informally as the current requirements are changeable, meaning that the country’s requirements to the knowledge fields are ever challenging. Our teachers must also instil in themselves that they are educating and nurturing the people of Brunei who will continue today’s efforts until Brunei truly achieves the status of a developed nation. The two recipients who received the Meritorious Award underlined that every individuals and community should played their important roles in educating the people’s nation.
