The Brunei Darussalam Metered Taxi System that was launched yesterday aimed to ensure that passengers pay an appropriate and regulated rate.
In an interview with RTB, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat, the Minister of Communications explained that the new Metered Taxi System will be cheaper than before, and that the fares charged will be the same rate as neighbouring countries. The Minister of Communications added that the taxi fares for the new system will always be monitored.
The Minister of Communications further reiterated that the ministry will try and use a number of approaches as an effort to upgrade the taxi usage among the public. This includes providing taxi stands in strategic places, doing promotions through videos and using the latest technology.
Under the new system, the fare for a 10 kilometre ride will be 12 dollars. However, additional charges will be imposed depending on traffic congestion. The fare is fixed based on the time or distance travelled. Prior to the system’s introduction, the charge for up to 10 kilometres is between 20 to 40 dollars.
