Brunei has not been exempted from the effects of the Climate Crisis. Mean temperatures have been increasing in Brunei at a rate of point 25 degrees Celsius per decade, and may reach an increase of 4 degrees Celsius by the end of the century. Brunei Darussalam's mean monthly rainfall is forecasted to increase to a mean of 500 millimetres by 2050.

Speaking at the launching of The Climate Action Week in conjunction with the Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition, Brunei MYCE 2022, yesterday morning, the Minister of Development explained that his Ministry through the Brunei Climate Change Secretariat, has been actively planning and implementing climate change policies and measures to address the ongoing issues of climate change. This is because the country plays an important role in climate action to reduce the impacts and risks of climate change. Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda Bin Haji Abdul Rashid said the Brunei National Climate Change Policy, BNCCP launched in July 2020, was to pave for Brunei Darussalam's low carbon and climate-resilient pathways for a sustainable nation.

With the theme, "Towards A Low Carbon And Climate-Resilient Brunei Darussalam", the Climate Action Week was jointly launched by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Paduka Doctor Awang Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Minister of Primary Resources And Tourism; the Minister of Development; Yang Berhormat Pengiran Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunicatons and Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.

Also held was a Climate Action Week exhibition focusing on this year's theme. The Climate Action Week is divided into two sub-events namely conference and exhibition to be held at the International Convention Center until the 25th June 2022 and the Eco-Street Festival, to be held at the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex on Sunday, the 26th of June.
