The Ministry of Health underscored five strategic objectives under its Strategic Plan 2019 – 2023. Speaking at the launch of the Ministry of Health Strategic Plan 2019 – 2023 yesterday morning, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health, said the strategic plan is hoped to provide a direction towards strengthening the health care system and services through the provision of services that are of better quality, efficient, effective, responsive, equal and easily accessible in line with the Universal Health Coverage concept. Yang Berhormat welcomed the drafting of the Strategic Plan implementation monitoring mechanism and framework including the use of approaches such as those proposed by the World Health Organisation which is through health indicators and targets.

Yang Berhormat the Minister of Health added that the 5-year target until 2023 has been planned in line with the initiatives and action plans lined up, whereby it covers measures of population health status, control of non-communicable diseases risk factors and national health service and system coverage. The health indicators and targets are also in line with the country;s commitment and support in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030 on Health.

The Minister of Health stressed that the best long-term investment is to strengthen the health care system covering the public and private sectors as well as forming strong collaborations with the involvement of the society at all levels aside from always placing the health agenda as a platform for sustainable development and driver for the implementation of health in all policies through the whole of nation approach.

The theme of the Ministry of Health Strategic Plan 2019 – 2023 is “Pelaburan untuk Masa Hadapan” or Investment for the Future. The strategic plan is a motivator for the ministry’s employees to achieve the objective of Wawasan Brunei 2035 specifically in enhancing the life quality of the country’s citizens and residents. Also present were Awang Haji Abdul Manap bin Othman, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Awang Haji Maswadi bin Haji Mohsin, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Policy and Management at the Ministry of Health.
