Jakarta Experiences Rise in Covid-19 Cases; Health Office Urges Caution

MANILA — The Jakarta Health Office issued a warning to residents to remain vigilant and adhere to health protocols as the city experiences an increase in active Covid-19 cases. Ani Ruspitawati, the head of the Jakarta Health Office, highlighted the uptick in cases attributed to seasonal changes and other factors.

According to Philippines News Agency, as of Thursday, there were 517 active Covid-19 cases in the city, with projections indicating a continued rise until mid-January 2024. Of these cases, approximately 300 residents are in self-isolation due to mild symptoms, while 217 are hospitalized. The office hopes for a decline in cases after mid-January. Jakarta also observed an increase in the Covid-19 death toll, with 16 recorded deaths as of December 26, 2023, compared to three in early December. The case fatality rate stands at 0.8 percent. Despite declaring the end of the Covid-19 pandemic in June 2023, the Indonesian government continues to monitor and respond to the situation, emphasizing adequate hospital bed availability and readiness for patient treatment.
