Jerusalem — Israel has reactivated the second of three pipelines providing water to the Gaza Strip,
According to Philippines News Agency, The Times of Israel newspaper reported that the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories confirmed the pipeline's reopening on Saturday.
According to the Israeli Defense Ministry, the move will enable the flow of 28.5 million liters of potable water per day to Gaza. This volume represents a little more than half of the nearly 49 million liters per day that Israel was previously supplying to the region before Hamas initiated an attack on Israel on October 7. Following the attack, Israel had heavily bombarded Gaza and cut off water supplies on October 9.
The Health Ministry reported that the number of Palestinians killed in the ongoing conflict has reached 8,005, including 3,342 children, 2,062 women, and 460 elderly people. On the Israeli side, more than 1,400 people have been killed. Daniel Hagari, an Israeli army spokesperson, announced on Saturday that Israeli forces are moving to the "next phase of our war against Hamas," which includes ground operations.
Amidst the conflict, Gaza's 2.3 million residents continue to face shortages in essential supplies such as food, water, fuel, and medicine due to Israel's blockade of the area.
