The United States Navy Warship, the USS Montgomery made its first appearance in the Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training CARAT 2019 between Brunei Darussalam and the United States yesterday. The current 25th edition of CARAT brings together the Royal Brunei Navy, the United States Navy and the United States Marines Corps USMC for the purpose of enhancing professionalism and skills of personnel from the two navies and other participating agencies.
During a tour of the USS Montgomery yesterday morning, the media were briefed on the functions and duties of the ship’s crew. Also present was His Excellency Matthew J. Matthews, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Brunei Darussalam. Apart from the USS Montgomery, another US Navy ship which is in Brunei waters for the CARAT is the Spearhead-class expeditionary fast transport USNS. In an interview, the United States Navy Public Affairs Officer, Lieutenant Lauren M. Chatmas said the warship had also participated in CARAT with the Singapore and Philippines Navies.
