The government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam through a number of Ministries and agencies as well as related parties has taken the initiative to implement a Car Free Day every Sunday.
It among other matters is hoped to strengthen the family institution, provide opportunities to small vendors, reduce carbon footprint and encourage healthy living. Recently Bandar Seri Begawan was declared as the ASEAN City of Culture 2016-2017. The declaration is one of the opportunities to showcase a way of life filled with Bruneian tradition and heritage.
In this regard, a number of roads in the Bandar Seri Begawan area will be closed from 6 until 10 in the morning every Sunday starting the 2nd of October. The public can then come to the capital and use the spaces available for recreation, cultural, family and community activities. Therefore, Bandar Seri Begawan will become an urban park that can be enjoyed by all through activities such as walking, jogging, cycling, aerobics and sales. The public is welcomed to take part and support the new norm for the well-being of every individual, family, community and country towards a high quality of living in line with Wawasan Brunei 2035.
