Global COVID-19 Summit

 

The Global COVID-19 Summit with a theme Ending the Pandemic and Building Back Better aimed to enable participants to obtain and exchange the latest information through discussion sessions between panel members consisting of heads of state and leading institutions in the world. The summit was held at Washington DC, United States via online and organised as well as officiated by His Excellency Joe Biden, the President of America. Brunei Darussalam’s delegation was led by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health.

 

Among discussed was the commitment to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and building global health security by 2022 through identified targets, including targeting vaccination programmes for at least 70 percent of the population in each country; improve the detection, monitoring, and reducing COVID-19 variants; and provide financial management for sustainable health.

 

The Summit was held in 4 sessions focusing on setting benchmarks for heads of states to assess and report on performance in tackling COVID-19, increasing the manufacture and supply of COVID-19 vaccines and medical equipment globally, as well as research and development for pandemic preparedness in the future. This is in line with the initiatives in the strategic goals of the Ministry of Health of Brunei Darussalam to address the COVID-19 pandemic and related issues.
