Fishermen’s Day Focuses on Empowering Fishing Community

Jerudong beach: In conjunction with World Oceans Day, Fishermen’s Day was organized by the Fisheries Department under the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, in collaboration with Poni Group Sendirian Berhad. This event serves as a platform to enhance cooperation between government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and the fishing community. Themed “Pemerkasaan Komuniti Nelayan” or “Empowering the Fishing Community,” the event aims to strengthen the development of the fisheries sector and support the well-being of the national economy.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the event was inaugurated by Awang Haji Mohammad Yusree bin Haji Junaidi, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism. The event featured activities such as training in basic skills for making artificial reefs and briefings on safety measures while at sea. Additionally, a Fishermen’s Assistance Counter was available to provide opportunities for obtaining financing, developing economic activities, and increasing competitiveness.
