Fed Expected to Keep Interest Rates Unchanged Amid Mixed Economic Signals

Washington: The U.S. central bank is poised to leave interest rates unchanged at its upcoming policy meeting, a decision that is expected to draw criticism from President Donald Trump. Despite the likelihood of a vigorous debate among policymakers, with one or possibly two Federal Reserve governors potentially dissenting in favor of lower borrowing costs, the consensus appears to lean towards maintaining the current rates.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the majority of Federal Reserve policymakers are expressing concern that President Trump’s tariff policies may reverse progress made towards achieving the central bank’s 2% inflation target. This concern currently outweighs apprehensions related to the labor market, indicating that inflation control remains a priority for the central bank.
