Efficient Revenue Collection Management

The public can now monitor and manage the use of electricity and water utilities online, through the Unified Smart Metering System, USMS. The system is an initiative of the Ministry of Finance and Economy, Department of Electrical Services and Department of Water Services with Government-linked companies namely the Berakas Power Company and DST Network Sendirian Berhad. For the Department of Water Services, the project aims to manage revenue collection more efficiently and reduce the issue of arrears.

USMS is a smart solution that includes data management and meter management; as well as a combined bill and user service portal system for both utilities. As of now, more than One hundred 40 smart water meters have been installed in private homes and commercial buildings throughout the country and will be expanded from time to time. The digital system uses each customer’s account. According to Awang Haji Munim Bin Haji Ismail, Head of Revenue Unit, Billing and Metering Division, users can check water usage every 24 hours, check credit balance, top up through the website at www.usms.com.bn or by using the USMS mobile application. This allows users to plan and change their water usage habits according to their individual needs. The system can also detect upgraded smart water meters.

The implementation of the USMS project not only reduces the Government’s expenditure but also aims to achieve the objectives of Wawasan Brunei 2035 through digital transformation by generating more efficient electricity and water supply management.
