The first-ever Durian Festival, organised by the Bintudoh Greenspring Resort, Raw Food Asia and AZ B2N Tour Services, kicked off yesterday at the resort with the organisers promising four days of fun-filled activities such as “all-you-can-eat durian”, a durian and local fruit clinic, and an “Amazing Race”.

“We want to bring to attention the beautiful, delicious and also nutritious fruits available here in Brunei,” Mewsum Wong from Raw Food Asia said at a press conference.

“Raw Food Asia promotes a lot of natural plant-based foods and we want people to eat naturally. So this festival is in line with our objectives.”

The organisers enlisted the help of two well-known health celebrities on social media, Durian Rider, an ultra-endurance cyclist who has cycled over 300,000 km in the last 14 years, and Freelee the Banana Girl, who is a YouTube diet ‘guru’ and healthy lifestyle trendsetter.

With their collective hits of 10 million views on social media, the two health celebrities are excited to be invited for the event.

“Brunei has such a wonderful variety of durian and other fruits,” Freelee said.

“The only thing we have to worry about are durians falling on our heads!” Durian Rider interjected her in jest.

The highlight of this festival is a bikeathon this coining Sunday at 6.30 pm where the guest of honour, Minister of Industry and Primary Resources Pehin Orang Maya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yahya bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, will be cycling with more than 100 cyclists, including Durian Rider, from the festival’s venue to Tasek Merimbun and back to promote a healthy lifestyle.
