Bandar seri begawan: Brunei's first National Geographic documentary about the Story of Palm Sugar will be aired on 9th January 2026. The documentary aims to explore the story behind the near extinction of Palm Sugar production. According to Radio Television Brunei, 'The Story of Palm Sugar' is the opening episode of Ecosystem of Taste: The Culinary Landscape of Borneo Brunei, a documentary series that explores the food cultures and interconnected ecosystems of the country and Borneo. Joshua Anak Belayan, a National Geographic Young Explorer based in Brunei, stated that the main inspiration for producing the documentary is to showcase Bruneian cuisine. Syafi Halim, Chief Executive Officer of New Wave Films, an international film company, expressed hope that the success of the project will be an important start for the local film industry.
