Post: Davao Region’s Mineral Production Valued at PHP 11.7 Billion in 2023

DAVAO CITY - The Davao Region has reported a significant gross production value from its mineral resources totaling PHP 11.7 billion for the year 2023, as stated by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau in the Davao Region (MGB-11).

According to Philippines News Agency, Officer-in-Charge of MGB-11, during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas forum, this valuation stems from the output of four large-scale mining companies operating within the region. These companies, which focus on extracting gold, nickel, and copper, collectively contributed PHP 487.7 million in excise tax payments last year. "The excise tax goes to the national government," Brevante noted, underscoring the fiscal contributions of the mining sector to national revenues.

The region, rich in various mineral resources, holds 41 large-scale mining agreements and permits. Additionally, Ma. Mercedes Dumagan, Director of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in the Davao Region, highlighted that beyond these major minerals, the region also possesses substantial sand and gravel deposits. To date, local government units have issued 313 permits for sand and gravel operations, facilitating local construction needs and contributing further to the region’s economic activities.
