Cordillera Government Agencies Assist Farmers in Selling Surplus Cabbage Through ‘Kadiwa ng Pangulo’

BAGUIO – In response to an oversupply of cabbage resulting from successive harvests and low prices at trading facilities in La Trinidad, Benguet, national government agencies in the Cordillera region have joined forces to help farmers sell their produce. The initiative involves the use of ‘Kadiwa ng Pangulo’ trucks that travel to various government agencies to sell the cabbage directly. Aida Pagtan, the Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information Service head, shared this information on Friday.

According to Philippines New Agency, On Friday alone, nine tons of cabbage were sold through the Kadiwa initiative, which aims to connect food producers directly with consumers. This approach reduces costs by eliminating intermediaries. National Police Commission – Cordillera director Edith Puddoc highlighted the significance of this initiative, encouraging all employees to participate in purchasing to support the farmers.

The Kadiwa ng Pangulo trucks have been selling cabbage at various agencies, including the National Economic and Development Authority, Professional Regulation Commission, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Public Works and Highways, and the Department of Agriculture. Christian Andrew Rillorta, information officer of the Social Security System – North Luzon, expressed willingness to allow Kadiwa trucks to use their compound for selling vegetables to the public. Other agencies have also committed to accommodating the Kadiwa truck for urgent sales of highly perishable produce in the future.
