Completion of New Access Road Promises Tourism Boost for Dinagat Islands Town
CAGDIANAO, Dinagat Islands – The Department of Public Works and Highways in the Caraga Region (DPWH-13) announced the completion of a new PHP7.5 million access road aimed at enhancing tourism in Cagdianao town, Dinagat Islands. This infrastructure project is expected to facilitate easier access to a number of tourist attractions and beaches in the Barangays of Del Pilar, Nueva Estrella, and Hinabyan.
According to Philippines News Agency, the road is a key component of a broader multi-year initiative that commenced in 2019, with a total allocation of PHP262 million dedicated to various infrastructure developments across the island province. To date, PHP42.5 million has been expended to complete several projects, including the recently finished tourism access road.
The new road, inaugurated early this month, spans 140 meters and features concrete paving, drainage, and slope protection structures. It falls under the 2023 Infrastructure Program managed by the Dinagat Islands District Engineering Office (DIDEO). The project is part of a larger scheme that aims to extend the island’s road network by 3.3 kilometers and includes the construction of a 70-meter bridge.
For the current year, DPWH-13 has disclosed that an additional PHP5 million has been allocated for the commencement of another bridge construction, further contributing to the region’s infrastructure development and tourism potential.
