Central Visayas Leads Medal Tally on Day 2 of Palarong Pambansa; NCR and Calabarzon Follow Closely
CEBU CITY — On the second day of the Palarong Pambansa, Central Visayas has surged to the top of the medal standings, amassing a total of 38 medals across various disciplines. The region outpaced the National Capital Region (NCR) and Calabarzon, which also showed strong performances in the national sports event.
According to Philippines News Agency, Central Visayas athletes have secured 13 gold, 19 silver, and six bronze medals. Despite being in second place, NCR athletes have claimed 15 golds, the second highest number of gold medals, complemented by eight silver and 12 bronze medals. Meanwhile, Calabarzon, currently in third place, boasts the highest number of gold medals at 19, along with eight silver and seven bronze.
Other notable performances include the Davao region with a total of 33 medals, comprising 10 gold, 13 silver, and 10 bronze, and Western Visayas, which has matched Davao in gold but has a different configuration of silver and bronze medals. The Soccsksargen region has also made its mark with 21 medals.
Highlighting Central Visayas’ achievements, 17-year-old runner Asia Paraase from Lapu-Lapu City clinched the region’s first gold medal in the 3,000-meter secondary girls’ run held at the Cebu City Sports Center track oval. Additionally, notable gold medal performances came from Arnis player Nathaniel Abing and chess players Kristina Concepcion Belano and Edelyn Vosotros of the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters. Vosotros secured two golds—one in the blitz category with a perfect score of seven points, and another in a team event alongside Belano, amassing 12 points.
