Cebu Athletes Triumph at National Age Group Triathlon in Subic Bay
SUBIC BAY – Athletes from Cebu dominated the elite category of the National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) held at The Boardwalk, Subic Bay Freeport, clinching top positions in a closely contested event. Andrew Kim Remolino led the men’s division, completing the 750m swim, 20km bike, and 5km run competition in 56 minutes and 56 seconds on Sunday. Following closely was fellow Cebuano Matthew Justine Hermosa with a time of 56:57, and Joshua Ramos from Baguio Benguet Triathlon secured the third spot with a time of 57:31.
According to Philippines News Agency, the 23-year-old Remolino, a silver medalist at the 2022 Vietnam Southeast Asian Games, expressed satisfaction with his performance, attributing his victory to thorough preparation. Hermosa, echoing a positive sentiment despite finishing second, achieved a personal best and anticipated a competitive race against Remolino. Last year, Remolino finished third, trailing behind Filipino-Spanish Fernando Casares and Hermosa. Casares, notable for his two-time Southeast Asian Games gold medals, did not participate in this year’s NAGT due to training commitments in Spain.
In the women’s division, Raven Faith Alcoseba clinched her third consecutive title with a time of 1:03:55. Erika Nicole Burgos and Kira Ellis followed, winning the silver and bronze medals with times of 1:05:39 and 1:06:16, respectively. Alcoseba, a civil engineering student at De La Salle University Manila, shared her strategy of maintaining a positive outlook throughout the race.
The junior elite category saw Dayshaun Ramos winning the men’s gold with a time of 58:44. The women’s title went to Janelle Susatra of Singapore, who finished in 1:07:17. The event, organized by Triathlon Philippines and supported by the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority and the Philippine Sports Commission, serves as a qualifier for the 2025 Thailand SEA Games and is part of the talent identification for the Philippine team.
