Carlos Alcaraz Triumphs Over Novak Djokovic to Defend Wimbledon Title
LONDON — Carlos Alcaraz successfully defended his Wimbledon men’s singles title on Sunday, defeating Novak Djokovic in straight sets in a repeat of last year’s final, where Alcaraz won his first Wimbledon championship.
According to Philippines News Agency, Alcaraz showed dominant form from the start, breaking Djokovic in a prolonged 14-minute opening game that set the tone for the rest of the match. Djokovic, a seven-time Wimbledon champion, acknowledged Alcaraz’s superiority, stating, “He was the better player from the beginning till the end.” Despite a late rally where Djokovic saved three match points in the third set, he was unable to overcome Alcaraz’s momentum, eventually losing 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4).
Alcaraz, at just 21 years old, has solidified his status as a top contender in men’s tennis by clinching his fourth Grand Slam title. His victory at Wimbledon follows his recent win at Roland-Garros, making him only the sixth man in the Open era to achieve back-to-back victories at these two prestigious tournaments within the same year.
Reflecting on his burgeoning career and future aspirations, Alcaraz remarked, “Obviously it’s a really great start of my career, but I have to keep going. I have to keep building my path. At the end of my career, I want to sit at the same table as the big guys.”
